Jim's parents were Herbert Senechal and Virgina Irene (Mott) Senechal, from North Dakota. He moved from Montana to Spokane, WA in 1926. He has one sister, Margery Baker. His parents divorced in 1936, and Jim moved with his mother to Seattle. A summer job as a messboy on a commercial ship took him by sea to NY and back. After Pearl Harbor, he joined the US Army. When WWII was over, he attended law school in Montana, and returned to the US Army, retiring after a total of 32 years. As a military lawyer, he attained the rank of Colonel. He and Betsy moved many times with military assignments. They currently reside in NC.
